How Learning Python Helps Me Understand AI in Marketing

As a marketing major, I didn’t expect to spend this much time learning Python or thinking about AI from a technical perspective—but I’m really glad I am. This week, I’ve started to see how learning Python is actually helping me understand how AI works behind the scenes, especially in ways that are super relevant to marketing. For example, the same kinds of algorithms I study in my classes—like those used in customer targeting, content recommendations, or ad optimization—are powered by code and data.

Knowing how those systems work helps me see the "why" behind what we do in marketing strategy. Even though I’m not planning to become a full-time programmer, understanding the basics of Python helps me think more critically about how AI tools work. For instance, when marketers use platforms like Google Analytics or Meta Ads, there’s often an AI component working in the background to suggest actions or predict outcomes. Learning how to use Python to clean data, analyze trends, or even automate tasks gives me a behind-the-scenes look at how those tools function. It also means I’ll be more comfortable working with data analysts or developers on marketing teams, because I understand the language they’re using and the logic behind it.

Overall, I’m starting to see AI and Python as valuable tools in my future career. Whether it’s using machine learning to predict customer behavior or automating email campaigns, the skills I’m building now could make me a stronger, more tech-savvy marketer. It’s not just about coding—it’s about using technology to make better marketing decisions. And that’s something I’m really excited to keep learning more about.
